In honor of the new Tame Impala song coming out, End of Summer, the first new single by Tame a.k.a Kevin Parker in 5 years, I thought I'd publish a list of my top 5 favorite tracks of the artist who has played in the background on repeat for the greater part of the last decade for me.

I believe this was one of the first songs I heard by Tame Impala off of his Currents album, along with "'Cause I'm a Man," and I immediately liked it. I liked it because it's not just a song, it's a story (and maybe a relatable one). It's also like a story you can dance to, and I'm still dancing to it today.

"Let it Happen" isn't just a song, it's like audio magic. I remember first hearing it, I thought my sense of hearing ascended cosmically mid-song because Parker had added some supernatural sounds into the mix. I thought I was glitching out of the Matrix or something, and then the music carried me through a lovely ten-minute journey. This track is worth a listen on a good sound system.

  1. "Borderline" This song is always fun and easy to listen to, and I can't help singing along. I love Parker's voice and his lyrics, while other fans think his instrumentals are better. It's refreshing to listen to his music because he has fun making it! I played this song for children I worked with years ago, and they couldn't get it out of their heads and loved dancing along with it.

  1. "Breathe Deeper"

There's a popular meme on the internet about this track where people use this song with the caption, "What did Kevin Parker put in his music?" It's like he has a secret ingredient for making good songs, indeed. "Breathe Deeper" is an all-around sweet song and a mood booster.

  2. "One More Year" "One More Year" grew on me after I'd seen Parker perform in concert for the first time in 2021. The audio distortion and the beat come together beautifully for a seriously groovy track. This track and all of the ones listed encourage, for me, a sense of optimism, wonder, and connection, which is why I think that any music lover can find something in Tame Impala.

Close runners-up include Elephant, Lost in Yesterday, and The Moment. Many of my favorites are considered fan favorites, admittedly, and it's certainly hard to pick just a top 5. I've been a fan since Tame Impala's Currents came out in 2015, so it's been fun to see his career evolve and grow, and I'm excited for the direction he's taking.
